We’ve got answers!
Below are recent questions we’ve received along with our team’s expert insights.
No. There is a lot that goes into properly calibrating a vehicle, including very precise specifications that need to be met. When OEMs designed these specifications, they left very little room for error. That’s why following the rules provided by the OEM to calibrate a vehicle are of the utmost importance.
Listen to our expanded answer here:
Technically, you can calibrate ADAS sensor-fusion whether the alignment is within or out of specifications. However, some OEMs require an alignment knowing that without verifying the alignment, you don’t know where the vehicle is ‘pointing’ via positive/negative thrust angle and, in turn, which direction the sensors are “looking.”
Listen to our complete answer here:
The biggest risk is system malfunction. ADAS features like automatic braking, lane keep assist, and blind spot detection rely on precisely calibrated sensors. If not calibrated to OEM specifications, these systems may not work correctly—putting drivers and others at serious risk.
From a liability standpoint, shops that skip or improperly perform calibrations may be held responsible if a post-repair accident occurs. OEMs require calibration as part of proper repair. Failing to follow those procedures can lead to legal and financial consequences, especially if documentation is lacking. Accurate OEM-level calibration protects both driver safety and shop liability.
The only accurate way to determine if ADAS calibration is required is by following the OEM’s documented calibration procedures for the specific year, make, and model of the vehicle. Each OEM has unique guidelines that specify when calibration is necessary, often triggered by repairs involving sensors, cameras, suspension, alignments, glass, bumpers, or structural components.
At our facilities, we use OEM service information to verify calibration requirements on every repair. Relying on generic rules or assumptions can result in missed calibrations or unnecessary procedures. Following OEM guidance ensures that all systems are functioning as intended and protects both the shop and the customer from future safety and liability risks.

Sentric was formed through a partnership between Dealer Tire and Burke Porter, which have a combined 170+ years of experience in the automotive industry, primarily with OEMs. Nearly all of its ADAS calibration facilities utilize the same equipment that’s used in factories for over 80% of vehicles manufactured in North America, Europe and Asia.
Below are several videos introducing Sentric and its capabilities and facilities, company testimonials and informational calibration videos.
Introduction: Sentric’s calibration services
The modern car is equipped with ADAS sensors, making it smart and highly capable, but when an accident or repair impacts these systems, precise recalibration to ensure accurate, reliable performance is needed. Sentric provides the highest quality, OE equivalent ADAS calibration services available. Its ADAS calibration services include static and dynamic calibrations and can be completed on all major vehicle makes and models.
Why Sentric
Leveraging Dealer Tire and Burke Porter’s combined OEM experience, Sentric takes an OEM-centric approach, replicating the tests and measurements performed in OEM factories. This results in the delivery of precise and accurate calibrated vehicles that ensure the safety and well-being of customers and consumers.
Sentric Testimonial: Mike Anderson
Mike Anderson, owner of Collision Advice, talks about his confidence in Sentric to properly perform ADAS calibrations, which he notes “is probably one of the most critical, sensitive, minimal allowance for any human error of anything that we do in our industry.”
Sentric Testimonial: Jason Weisenbach and Kent Murphy
Jason Weisenbach, collision center manager of Hare Estes Collision of Carmel, and Kent Murphy, general manager of Ray Skillman Collision Center East, recount their experiences with Sentric and why they trust the company with their calibration needs.
Sentric Testimonial: Mannes Body Shop

Sentric Facilities Tour
This video showcases key features of every Sentric lab, including the removal of all ambient light, controlled lighting throughout, level floors, Hunter alignment racks, battery maintainers, OE equivalent equipment from Burke Porter and more.
Dynamic vs. static calibrations
The specific type of calibration needed – dynamic or static – is determined by the type of vehicle and specific OEM requirements. Static calibrations involve showing a known object or pattern at a prescribed distance and location to a sensor and verifying that it is seeing that object exactly as it should be. For dynamic calibrations, a car must be driven in a prescribed structure with real world signals and common vectors integrated into a learning mode.
Sentric’s intake and prep process
Before calibration can begin, it is necessary to prepare the vehicle to ensure the most accurate and precise calibration possible. Every vehicle that Sentric services goes through a detailed OE mandated preparation process as outlined in the video.
Equipment Spotlight: Sentric’s Super Center System
Sentric’s Super Center System is precision engineered for high speed automated ADAS calibration. It is one of the most advanced and trusted pieces of OE calibration equipment used by the company.
Equipment Spotlight: Sentric’s Target Position System
Designed for precise, versatile ADAS calibration, the Target Position System is ideal for a wide range of ADAS calibrations from forward facing calibrations to side and rear systems.
