Motorcycle testing

On-Board Diagnostic (OBD) testing will be required for all motorcycles in the United States by model year 2024. The California Air Resources Board (CARB) has been in the process of evaluating the current European regulations and deciding how they want to create the US motorcycle regulations. CARB is currently testing motorcycles and collecting data to gain a better understanding of what they plan to make mandatory. A scenario that manufacturers are hopeful for is that CARB decides to harmonize with the European regulations to make both similar.

In vista delle nuove norme sulle emissioni per le moto da strada (ONMC) del California Air Resources Board (CARB), WinterPark ha investito in un banco dinamometrico SuperFlow CycleDyn. I vantaggi che derivano dal possedere un proprio banco prova interno sono molteplici, come ad esempio la possibilità di effettuare test tutto l'anno e di seguire le tracce di guida prescritte in un ambiente controllato e sicuro. Il banco è configurato con un programma di assistenza alla guida Burke-Porter che consente di eseguire cicli come il World Motorcycle Test Cycle (WMTC). Oltre ai test al banco di prova, WinterPark dispone di piloti di moto autorizzati che possono eseguire test su strada per convalidare le calibrazioni e generare dati statistici in condizioni di guida reali.

Since 2018 WinterPark has been working with motorcycle manufacturers to develop their OBD systems to comply with the current European motorcycle regulations. We are able to apply the experience we have in the automotive sector and apply those lessons learned to the motorcycle industry, so our customers are prepared for the upcoming CARB regulations. We are active participants in the CARB working group meetings to help develop the new motorcycle regulations and stay informed during the rule making process.
