Three stages. One silent, perfectly balanced turbo.

Every unit that leaves your shop should spin true, run cool, and go quietly about its work.

Cimat covers every step that makes it happen.

A full turbocharger reconditioning workflow involves three measurement stages — and Cimat covers every one of them.

1

Rotor balancing — start right, or nothing else works

Dynamic balancing of the bare turbine wheel / shaft / compressor wheel assembly before the core is built.

2

Core balancing — kill the whistle, extend the life

Balancing the assembled CHRA at operating speeds up to 300,000 rpm to eliminate vibration and the undesirable whistling effect, extending turbocharger lifespan.

3

Flow-bench calibration — prove it works before it ships

Dynamic VNT/wastegate calibration of the complete turbocharger using mass air flow, pressure, and oil supply that mirror in-vehicle conditions.

One footprint, two stages —

Cimat also offers combined machines that integrate two stages on a single stand — so a small workshop can build a full turbo center without giving up floor space.

Core balancers — 300,000 RPM of pure, whistle-free precision

Twelve machines. Every frame size.
Zero compromise.

From a single-bay passenger-car balancer to a full OEM production cell, there's a machine in the Cimat range built for the job.

Combined machines — a full turbo center on a single footprint

Floor space is expensive. Cimat's Twin and Basic variants combine two measurement stages in a single housing — so a small workshop can run a full turbocharger balancing center without giving up a single square meter. The Twin machines pair high-speed and low-speed core balancing. The Basic machines pair high-speed core balancing with belt-driven rotor balancing. One operator, one stand, two stages.

CMT-TR POLIMER — get stage one right, every time

Every perfectly balanced turbo starts with a perfectly balanced rotor. The CMT-TR Polimer delivers 2-plane dynamic balancing down to 0.05 gmm on passenger, light-duty, and heavy-duty rotors — with an "ABC" calibration mode that gets you running in minutes, not hours.

Flow benches — the final word on whether a turbo is ready

A perfectly balanced turbo still has to prove it can move air. Cimat flow benches dynamically calibrate wastegates and VNT actuators against measured mass air flow — with the turbocharger mounted exactly as it sits in the vehicle, oil drain pointing down, for the highest measurement accuracy in the industry. No more warranty returns. No more guesswork. Every unit ships knowing it works.

Frequently asked questions

These are the three sequential stages of a complete turbocharger reconditioning workflow. Rotor balancing (stage 1) dynamically balances the bare turbine wheel, shaft, and compressor wheel assembly before the core is built. Core balancing (stage 2) balances the assembled CHRA at operating speeds up to 300,000 rpm to eliminate vibration and whistling. Flow-bench calibration (stage 3) validates the complete turbocharger's VNT/wastegate performance using real airflow, pressure, and oil supply conditions. For a full reconditioning shop, all three stages are recommended; OEMs and high-throughput remanufacturers typically run all three, while some specialists may only need one or two.

It depends on throughput and floor space. Small workshops benefit from combined machines like the CMT-VSR Twin or Basic, which integrate two stages (high-speed + low-speed core balancing, or core + rotor balancing) on a single footprint. Independent specialists handling passenger cars and light-duty turbos typically choose the CMT-VSR. Shops handling commercial, off-highway, marine, agricultural, or motorsport turbochargers need the CMT-VSR Big for larger frames. The flagship CMT-VSR Pro covers passenger car through large-frame turbos and is the benchmark machine for premium reconditioning shops.

The CMT-VSR handles compressor wheels up to 109 mm and cores up to 240 mm diameter, suited for passenger car and light/medium commercial turbos. The CMT-VSR Pro and CMT-VSR Big handle compressor wheels up to 179 mm and turbine wheels up to 134/114 mm (inducer/exducer), covering everything from passenger to large-frame heavy-duty applications. The CMT-TR low-speed balancer handles cores with mass up to 16 kg for commercial, off-highway, agricultural, and marine turbochargers.

All Cimat high-speed core balancers run up to 300,000 rpm with automatic speed and cycle control. Minimum residual unbalance on the CMT-VSR Pro is 0.05 gmm — industry-leading precision. The CMT-TR Polimer rotor balancer also achieves 0.05 gmm on rotors from 20 g to 5 kg, with a max speed of 16,000 rpm and two correction planes.

The Turbo Test performs dynamic VNT and wastegate calibration on the complete turbocharger using real mass air flow, pressure, and oil supply that mirror in-vehicle conditions. Specs include max turbine inlet pressure of 250 kPa, mass air flow accuracy of ±1 kg/h, max mass air flow of 450 kg/h, and max volume air flow of 380 m³/h. The turbo is mounted in its in-vehicle orientation (oil drain pointing down) for the highest measurement accuracy, which helps eliminate warranty returns.

Yes. Cimat and the broader Burke Porter / Universal Balancing platform support balancing for drive shafts, crank shafts, clutches, dual-mass flywheels, brake discs, engine cooling fans, and industrial wheels and tires — essentially anything that rotates.

Every Cimat balancer ships with a C-type interlocked safety guard, multistage oil filtration to protect the bearing system, automatic correction-point calculation that shows the exact angular position of unbalance, and noise-reduction housing with swivel wheels for repositioning. Reverse-rotation core balancing is standard on every VSR machine.

Cimat is now backed by Ascential Technologies Group's global infrastructure: 60+ years of combined experience, 40+ locations across 4 continents, and lifetime support including service, training, parts, and applications engineering. Field support is reachable at +1 (616) 234-1100 (Ascential Care), and ongoing support is delivered through Ascential Care and Ascentialytics platforms.

Standard configuration is 230 V, 50/60 Hz, and the machines are deployed in 90+ countries. International voltages are available on request — worth confirming during the spec process for your region.
